Autonomous Electrical Current Monitoring System for Aircraft

Aircraft monitoring systems offer enhanced safety, reliability, reduced maintenance cost, and improved overall flight efficiency. Advancements in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are enabling unprecedented data acquisition functionalities, but their applicability is restricted by power limitations, as batteries require replacement or recharging wired adds weight detracts from the benefits of technology. In this article, energy autonomous WSN presented for structural current aircraft structures. A hybrid inductive/Hall sensing concept introduced demonstrating 0.5-A resolution, <2% accuracy, frequency independence, a 5–100-A rms, dc 800-Hz current, range, with 35-mW active consumption. An inductive harvesting supply magnetic flux funneling, reactance compensation, supercapacitor storage demonstrated to provide 0.16 mW continuous 65-μT rms field 20-A 360-Hz current. low-power node platform custom multimode duty cycling network protocol developed, offering cold-starting association acquisition/transmission functionality at 50- 70-μW average powers, respectively. level operation 1 min every 8 demonstrated. The proposed system offers unique monitoring.
